I created this piece for the Art House opening in Middleton, inspired by the theme "what makes a house a home." Although it wasn't selected for the final showcase, it holds a special place in my portfolio.
The title "Homeward Heart" is deeply personal to me, drawing inspiration from the film Homeward Bound, a childhood favourite. The film’s poignant scene where the boy eagerly awaits his dog Shadow's return has always moved me to tears, resonating so deeply that I named my own dog Shadow too.
This painting explores the profound connections that transform a space into a home. For me, it is the presence of loved ones, especially pets, that fills an empty house with love and friendship. The depicted child and dog embody the loyalty, warmth, and comforting companionship reminiscent of my childhood, surrounded by golden retrievers raised by my aunt and uncle. Known for their gentle nature, these dogs epitomise what home truly means to me.
Infused with emotions, memories, and cherished experiences, "Homeward Heart" aims to resonate with anyone who cherishes the simple yet profound joy that pets and family bring to our lives.
