The instinct to protect your child is fierce. It’s primal. You want to stand between them and everything that could hurt them. You’d take the hit, carry the burden, just to keep them whole.
But part of love is learning when to step back. There comes a time when protecting can’t mean holding on too tight. It has to mean standing close, watching, guiding, but not wrapping them in cotton wool. Because they won’t grow strong if they’re never allowed to fall and get back up.
It’s one of the hardest parts, holding back when every bit of you wants to step in. Trusting that the love you’ve given them, the roots you’ve planted, will hold. Protection isn’t always about guarding, sometimes it’s about preparing. And then letting them go.
